About Jim Jim started cutting stones in 1970, He had a gem shop in Mareeba Far North Queensland and ran 4 wheel drive safaris to look for gems in Far North Queensland. He also owned a tin mine near Mt Surprise. Being in Mareeba he specialized in Topaz and Sapphires, although he cut a lot of other gemstones as well. He also wrote for various lapidary journals at the time and gave radio talks on gem stones and did lecture tours to a lot of gem clubs throughout the state. He has been in the gemstone trade for about 32 years. He has cut tens of thousands of gems for markets all over the world, he still cut stones of all types.
