About Absolutes
Absolutes are frequently described as the highest
concentration of natural fragrance that can possibly be
obtained. Absolutes are usually extracted by solvent extraction
which is a gentle production method. This process tends to
create less of the essential oil compounds compared to
distillation methods and will also extract the heavier
constituents.
Absolutes are usually produced from raw materials with a very
low concentration of essential oil (eg. Jasmine) and therefore
require very large quantities to produce a small quantity of the
absolute. Absolutes are therefore expensive to produce, but
are required in only small quantities for Aromatherapy since
they are so highly concentrated. |
